The number of patients per day that MedStar crews suspect as potentially suffering from COVID continues to rise.
The average number of patients per day rose to a record 160 per day for the period of January 18th through the 25th, a 131% rate of increase from November.
The number of patients treated on scene and not transported to area hospitals using MedStar’s COVID Non-Transport protocol is decreasing, but us still up 394% from November. The decrease may be because patients are not stable enough to qualify for the non-transport protocol, instead, require treatment at a local hospital.
Under the COVID Non-Transport protocol, patients exhibiting low-acuity signs and symptoms of COVID-19, who are clinically stable, are NOT transported to a hospital. Instead, they are provided education and materials to help them get medical care in a more appropriate setting, such as with their doctor, or other primary care resources.
These case counts far surpass what we saw just a few months ago, and eclipse the case counts we saw during the last peaks in August and September.
We continue to encourage science-based, CDC-recommended practices such as masking, personal hygiene, and COVID vaccines for those who may have not had the opportunity to do so.
The CDC is reporting that unvaccinated people accounted for over 97% of hospitalizations.
We believe a key to getting more people vaccinated is making it convenient for them to attend a local vaccine clinic.
